RE: If 5a + 6b = 30 and a – 6b = 6, then find the value of the variables ‘a’ as well as ‘b’.

I have problems on mathematics, My questions is –

If 5a + 6b = 30 and a – 6b = 6, then find the value of the variables ‘a’ as well as ‘b’.

a. 30, 6
b. 5, 30
c. 6, 30
d. 30, 4
e. None of the above

Please help me by salving this GMAT Questions.

Correct answer: e

Explanation:

According to the data given in the question,
5a + 6b = 30———i
a – 6b = 6———-ii
Now adding equations I and ii, we get,
6a = 36
∴ a = 6
Now, substituting this value of ‘a’ in equation ii, we get,
6 – 6b = 6
∴ 6 – 6 = 6b
∴ 0 = 6b
∴ b = 0/6
∴ b = 0
Hence, the derived values of ‘a’ and ‘b’ are 6 and 0 respectively.
But, neither of the options contains this answer.
Hence, the correct answer is option e.
