VPN protects your data by encrypting and hiding your IP address. In simple terms, encryption is the conversion of data from plain text that can be read by everyone into encryption that can only be read by authorized users.
Encryption does not protect your data from hackers. Instead, your data will be deleted. Free VPN services use protocols – PPTP, L2TP, OpenVPN, SSTP, and IKEv2 – to encrypt your data. Although these are purely technical in nature, you should note the following:

OpenVPN is the current gold standard for anyone who wants privacy.
Avoid PPTP at all costs.
– IPSec L2TP is not recommended for mobile devices.
